Advanced Battle

Pokémon: Advanced Challenge is the seventh season of Pokémon, a Japanese anime television series known in Japan as Pocket Monsters: Advanced Generation (ポケットモンスター アドバンスジェネレーション, Poketto Monsutā Adobansu Jenerēshon). It originally aired in Japan from September 2003 to September 2004 on TV Tokyo and in the United States from September 2004 to September 2005 on Kids' WB.

Set in the fictional Hoenn region, the season follows the adventures of the ten-year-old Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum (voiced in English by Veronica Taylor and in Japanese by Rica Matsumoto) and his electric mouse partner Pikachu (voiced by Ikue Ōtani) as they collect Gym Badges so they can compete in the Hoenn League competition, as well as the Pokémon coordinator May (voiced in English by Taylor and in Japanese by Kaori), who earns Ribbons from Pokémon Contests so she can enter the Hoenn Grand Festival.

The episodes were directed by Masamitsu Hidaka and produced by the animation studio OLM.

The Japanese opening songs are "Advance Adventure" by GARDEN for the first 30 episodes, and "Challenger!!" by Matsumoto. The ending songs are "Polka O Dolka" by Inuko Inuyama and Nolsol Chorus Group for the first 4 episodes, "Because the Sky is There" (for 7 episodes) and "Smile" by Toshiko Ezaki, and "Full of Summer!!" by Naomi Tamura and Himawari Chorus (for 8 episodes). The English opening song is "This Dream" by David Rolfe.

The division between seasons of Pokémon is based on the English version openings of each episode and may not reflect the actual production season. The English episode numbers are based on their first airing in the United States either in syndication on Cartoon Network, or on Kids' WB/The WB. (Other English-speaking nations largely followed either this order or the Japanese order.) Subsequent airings of the English version follow the original Japanese order, except in the case of episodes which are no longer shown in English.

This season aired first-run episodes in Japan from September 4, 2003, to September 2, 2004. In the United States, it aired from September 11, 2004, to September 10, 2005. It originally aired as part of the 2004-05 Kids' WB! Saturday morning line-up.

The seventh season of Pokémon (Pokémon: Advanced Challenge in the English dub adaptation) was formerly licensed by 4Kids Entertainment in North America and formerly distributed by Warner Bros. Family Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television Animation through North American television rights. It is now licensed by The Pokémon Company International and also distributed by VIZ Media, LLC and VizKids both home video and television.

The series was released on 10 DVD volumes by Viz Media.[1] Viz Media released Pokémon: Advanced Challenge – The Complete Collection on DVD on December 5, 2017.

This season, there is a new mid-episode eyecatch segment known as "Pokémon Trainer's Choice", which is hosted by Ash himself. This segment challenges the viewers to answer questions about the things they covered during the episode instead of identifying the creatures in "Who's that Pokémon?" from the first six seasons. "Pokémon Trainer's Choice" was abandoned at the beginning of the Battle Frontier season.
