So...[edit] America, the definition of "short subject" was almost the same as the American definition of "featurette"? What was the point of having the word "featurette", then? And what exactly did they call films shorter than 20 minutes? Esn 11:12, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Please Add Link[edit]

...Hello, Our company have developed a website purely for filmmakers to upload their Short Films for free. Please visit

I've never heard a short film called a short subject[edit]

Shouldn't the redirect be the other way around? -- 10:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I say the lemma should be "short film". No-one says "short subject". Maikel (talk) 20:52, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Seems like an obvious case of prioritizing technical terminology over common names. Someone should make a move request.

I wanted to add a link to this article[edit]

Hi, I'm Hrish Thota from FilmCamp.TV. Our site is a collection of what we call "New Indian Cinema". It is a collection of short films from India just in the same way as BritFilms.TV is for Britian. Request you to please let add the following link to this article:

FilmCamp.TV - a collection of professionally made short films and movies from India.

Image copyright problem with File:Joe McDoakes title card.jpg[edit]

The image File:Joe McDoakes title card.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

I never even heard of the industry term "short subject" before I tried to link to short film. The lead appears to be written from the perspective of film buffs rather than the average reader. Please fix this as soon as possible.

It says in the header: The description is now used almost interchangeably with short film'. Like all the others that have commented above, I too have never heard of the term "short subject", so this statement is probably incorrect these days. hence the move request below. Requested move[edit]

Moved to Short film. While the discussion here was sparse, there were no objections and the category is Category:Short films. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:19, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Short subjectShort Film — "Short Film" is the usual term these days, if "Short" is excluded because of its ambiguous meaning. --Jubilee♫clipman 15:21, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Neutral but if it is to be moved it should be to Short film with lower case f, since it's not a proper noun. Station1 (talk) 05:25, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

WorldCat Genres[edit]

Hello, I'm working with OCLC, and we are algorithmically generating data about different Genres, like notable Authors, Book, Movies, Subjects, Characters and Places. We have determined that this Wikipedia page has a close affintity to our detected Genere of short-films. It might be useful to look at [1] for more information. Thanks.
